The musings of a semi-retired retard

The Big Day

The forecast for the day was actually for heavy showers and as this is such an uncommon phenomenon in Spain for June we had not considered the need for a contingency plan. So we had no choice but to keep our fingers crossed. There were so many cooks in the kitchen that I kept my distance although could not resist washing up from time to time. My birthday cake was a real work of art and was obviously made with love by Sheonagh and Ailsa. We laid out the tables and chairs and added the tablecloths and decorations.  Irene had made a huge banner to hang above the quincho and Gordon blew up the balloons.

Four o’clock was fast approaching and there was no sign of the caterers which caused me to wonder whether or not a chinese carryout might be a plausible substitute for the grand fare we had promised! The caterers arrived with half an hour to spare which was in fact, plenty of time. As with most events we plan the finishing touches were being put as the first guests arrived.
